General Description
Kaolin is a naturally occurring hydrated aluminum silicate mineral widely used across ceramics, paper, rubber, paints and coatings, personal care, pharmaceuticals, and industrial applications. It is valued for its fine particle size, chemical inertness, high brightness, and excellent dispersibility.
Kaolin functions as a filler, extender, anti caking agent, absorbent, and rheology modifier depending on application. Its low abrasiveness, thermal stability, and consistent quality make it suitable for both technical and regulated formulations.
Chemical Properties
• Physical State: Fine white to off white powder
• Odor: Odorless
• Solubility: Insoluble in water
• pH: Typically 4.0 – 7.0
• Chemical Nature: Inert and stable
Technical Specification
• Particle Size: Controlled as per grade
• Brightness: Grade dependent
Grades Available:
• Ball Clay
• Meta Clay
• Calcined Kaolin
• Washed Kaolin
• Hydrous Clay
Applications
Ceramics: Used in the manufacture of porcelain, tiles, sanitaryware, and refractories for plasticity and strength.
Paper Industry: Used as a filler and coating pigment to improve brightness, smoothness, and printability.
Paints and Coatings: Used as an extender to improve opacity, durability, and rheological control.
Rubber and Plastics: Used as a reinforcing filler to enhance mechanical properties.
Personal Care and Pharmaceuticals: Used in cosmetic formulations, skincare products, and pharmaceutical preparations due to its absorbent and gentle nature.
